Colored version of that Indian Bride sketch I did earlier. I looked at ref for the designs of the jewelry and dress but almost totally winged/took a ton of lee-way with it…so it basically isn’t accurate at all :P

So we are looking for art/visual development apprentice candidates who are willing to relocate to Texas. I think they would ideally be a generalist-type artist who does stuff like character orthos/paint, prop design/paint, environments, etc. Its also a full-time thing so its probably not doable for students (usually apprenti are recent grads).

The apprentice is for the Day of the Dead project we are working on (which just got renamed “Book of Life” http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/guillermo-del-toro-fox-animation-401787 I can vouch for it being an awesome project :)

If ya’ll know anyone who is good and fits this description lemme know, we are tasked with seeking some potential peeps out :P

Edit: Unfortunately they have to be US residents! :( This stinks but those be the rules.

Edit: PM me, we are just making a list of names/folios to send to production :P

Sooo, who’s goin to CTN? :D? I am and I’m excited for the upcoming weekend of adventuring. I’ll be hanging around the ReelFX booth on Friday after lunchtime talking to people for a couple of hours (I have a scheduled booth-workin’ time).

But yeah it’s gonna be fun times, ladies and gents.

Hmmm, I found this artist confession using some fanart I drew a while back…even though I didn’t have anything to do with putting together the confession, I guess I agree with it. I do think sometimes people get too uppity and worked up about people who draw a lot of fanart. I see nothing wrong with making it, and people enjoy doing it for fun, (including a lot of people who merely draw for fun and don’t want to make a living out of it).

I think there’s some sort of “bitterness” that stems from the easy popularity that is gained from drawing a lot of fanart…but for the most part, the type of popularity garnered from drawing “mediocre” fanart is probably not often helpful to someone who wants to work professionally. But a lot of the time the people drawing that art are just drawing to have fun, which I think is totally okay. That being said, if someone is drawing genuinely good ART, fanart or otherwise, people with the eye for it will recognize this as well.

As for mixing fanart with a professional portfolio, I’m not sure what the consensus is at all. I’ve always kind of believed it to be a no-no and kept fanart out of my portfolio, however I’ve talked to more than one professional who has told me that if the fanart is good (or perhaps unique?), it can totally be shown in a portfolio. Some studios also seem to want to see a confirmation that you can “do their style” and perhaps on-model fanart could work for this as well.

But either way, I think people should be happy to draw whatever they want, whether that’s just being a casual “for-fun” fan-artist or working towards developing a professional illustration career. Obviously it’s harder get recognition as the latter, but that’s part of the challenge I guess.

Here’s something different for once XD Since I’m at home on sort of a between-contract work-hiatus right now, I’m..bored. So I took this old painting of a tree-hut-house thing (I did it as a student and it’s pretty much a rip off of the moeity age building thingy from Riven; yay student me for being so creative -_- lol) and gave it more environment-background-stuff.

It ain’t exactly finished, but I’m pretty terrible at motivating myself to work on personal long term projects (long term as in more than a day or two XD) so this is all I’m gonna do for this (for now).

Gonna be spammy today and post the colors right away :P
